She volunteered her time and expertise, traveling from Canada to Addis Ababa for a two-week trip, meeting with individual children who we identified as experiencing mental health struggles. In addition, we worked with our staff on the ground, all of whom had grown up at Kidane Mehret and have strong relationships with the children who still live there, to define groups of 6-8 children, who are the same gender
and in the same age range, setting up group therapy sessions which were built to continue after she left.
We also created a set of resources for the children to access as needed, as well as a structured approach to ongoing therapy and group sessions. She will continue to monitor programs remotely, offering suggestions and answering questions as needed.
Ongoing therapeutic efforts also include regular sessions for children who need more psychological appointments.
